The 2011-2012 wrestling season has finally come to an end. The Cardinals had a great year the team finished third at the regional behind Lena-Winslow who finished the year placing 2nd in State this year.
Individually the Cardinals finished strong taking five wrestlers to state with a sixth as an alternate.
At 126, Junior JJ Whaley for the second year in a row won the state title becoming a 2x State Champion. Defeating Trent Lyons of Wilmington 3-2 in the finals.
At 138, Junior Travis Hagemann lost in the first round to the eventual State Champion from Sandwich Alphonz Vruno. In the wrestle backs Travis lost to Gabe Bartok, Carterville.
At 145, Junior Talon Paul Placed 2nd in state lossing to 2x State Champion Mark McDonnell in the state finals.
At 170, Senior Jake Wold placed 6th this year losing 5-3 in overtime to Zach Abney of Pittsfield in the 5th and 6th place match.
At 182, Junior Aaron Person was an alternate and did not get to wrestle.
At 220, Senior AJ Dobson placed 5th in state defeating Kevan Frank of El Paso (E.P.-Gridley) by Fall in 5:05.
Overall the Cardinals finish the year proving their dominence in the sport of wrestling. Graduating only a few seniors the cardinals will be back in 2012-2013 in the hunt to capture a State Title. Congratulations on such a Great Year!!
